Since 1999, the scientific activities of INED have been organized into twelve thematic research units.  All researchers belong to one unit, and may belong to two if they wish.  Each unit defines its annual scientific objectives, which take the form of collective "key projects", associated with researchers' "individual projects".    The organization, activity and research goals of these units are reviewed every four years by an Assessment Committee.
