ContenuThe DemoBalk network
The Balkans is a region the situation and the demographic trends of which have never been studied much, while it represents an area which has deeply changed in the last 15 years.
In 1996, a few researchers in demography have set up the DémoBalk network (réseau DémoBalk) to answer the rather pressing need to understand Europe and the international community in that area. Since then, ten or so researchers have been studying populating dynamics, ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities' demography, the impact of the deterioration of sanitary and social conditions on life expectancy, etc.
Its members have also been involved in several statistical surveys and are taking part in different educational programs in several universities. Jean-Paul Sardon and Alain Parant from INED are part of it.
