Population Europe: the European Population Partnership

In December 2009, INED became a member of Population Europe: the European Population Partnership, alongside 18 other leading European demographic research centres. The aim of this network is to ensure rapid dissemination of relevant and scientifically validated information with a view to fostering debate on population issues in Europe. It targets an audience with knowledge of population issues - though not exclusively the academic community - and the public at large.
Population Europe is backed by the European Commission (DG Employment), but is supported primarily by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research. A secretariat of three persons based in Berlin at the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science maintains the network's website, liaises between network partners and answers requests for information.
At present, Population Europe functions mainly via the regular updating of its website. However, the network publishes a newsletter and various brochures, and plans to organize annual events in Brussels and elsewhere across Europe. Gilles Pison is the network contact person at INED.
