INED is active in the international arena. 

Many INED research conduct fieldwork abroad, in collaboration with local research institutions.  Likewise, INED receives around thirty foreign researchers each year.  It is working on collaborative projects with the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Baltic states, the Balkan states, Canada, Chile, Brazil, Tunisia, Thailand, Senegal, Mali and others. 

INED also has close ties with several inter-governmental organizations.  Each year, it is invited to contribute to the work of the United Nations and its agencies, and to that of the World Health Organization.

INED is also a member of several international demographers' associations, two of which are hosted on its premises.
