The IPUMS project (Integrated Public Use Micro data Series)

The project IPUMS International intends to list preserve, coordinate and diffuse the micro-data collected during population census worldwide, while respecting its confidentiality. The objective is to facilitate comparative research in time and space.

Developed by the Minnesota Population Center (MPC), it was originally about American census data collected since 1850 (IPUMS). Today IPUMS International gathers about thirty countries and partner institutions.

INED has already collected and laid out for public use French census data. In collaboration with its European counterparts, the Institute is now working towards a standardisation of the data collected in Europe (IPUMS Europe).
