European Doctoral School of Demography
INED supports the European Doctoral School of Demography, an international training program for young doctoral students.
The European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) was founded in 2005 on the initiative of the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS). It receives support from five research institutions, including INED, and 12 European universities.
The EDSD is open to students of all nationalities with a master’s degree and enrolled in their first year of doctoral studies. The twenty selected students are taught for 11 months by researchers who are eminent specialists in their fields. EDSD training is widely recognized by population research institutes and organisations throughout the world.
The School changes locations every two years. INED hosted it for the academic years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. The Institute funds two to three doctoral fellowships annually to enable young researchers to take the EDSD study program.
In the academic year 2014-2015, EDSD is based at the Institute of Statistics and Demography of the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), Poland. Preparatory courses (from September to mid-October) for the same year are being given at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany.
