Conjugal and family life has changed radically in Europe over recent decades. To develop new insights into these recent changes, the Population Activities Unit of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) initiated a Europe-wide set of surveys, known as the Generations and Gender Surveys (GGS), that have so far been conducted in around 20 countries.

France was one of the first countries to run this survey. This book provides a general overview of recent changes in conjugal behaviour in France: What changes have occurred in the transition to adulthood? Are couples developing new forms of union? What conditions must be met before having a child? What are the factors that determine union stability? How does religion influence conjugal and family behaviours? How are domestic and parenting tasks shared within the couple? How does the division of tasks change after the birth of a child?
