Research field(s)

My research projects share a common focus on the transformation of social classes and groups in French society since the 1980s. I particularly study certain dynamics that contribute to the desegregation of the working classes (more in contact with other social groups than in the 1980s), but also to the resegregation of the upper classes, as well as the tensions between distancing and openness that characterize the middle classes.

Social Mix, Coexistence between Social Groups, and Neighborhood Ties: A first set of research deals with social ties in residential spaces, which can be considered both as social resources (providing access to services, information, social dispositions, etc.) and as opportunities for encountering others. In this context, I particularly study the case of newly built neighborhoods with the objective of social mixing, blending social housing and private housing (known as planned social mix neighborhoods).

Inequalities and School Trajectories: A second research area analyzes school trajectories and inequalities. My work focuses on both the transformation of the structure of pathways in secondary education since 1980 and on the evolution of social inequalities in access to these pathways.

Social Stratification, Social Groups, and Socioeconomic Classifications: My work more generally focuses on the evolution of the structure of social groups and how to catch them. I advocate for a configurational approach that allows studying social groups based on the articulation of individuals' different properties. I have also been involved in the renovation of the 2020 Socioeconomic Classifications (PCS) and contributed to building two new classifications, the Household Socioeconomic Classifications (PCS Ménage) and the class schema, both adopted in public statistics.
