This website, devoted to immigration issues, is maintained by the Ministry of the Interior, Overseas Territories, Regional Authorities and Immigration. It presents French and European migration policy and covers the legal aspects of immigration and asylum. General immigration statistics can be viewed via the "Ressources" tab by clicking on "Etudes/Statistiques" and then on "Thèmes". The "Ressources" tab also provides access to the ministry's partners, to public reports and to publications, notably the electronic Infos migrations journal. It also gives the survey methodology and published results of ELIPA, a longitudinal survey on the integration of first-time arrivals in France. Académie des sciences
The Académie des sciences brings together French scholars with the objective of promoting scientific research by showcasing its members' research, publishing scientific reports and awarding prizes. The Academy also engages in reflection on scientific issues and makes proposals. It gives its opinion and formulates recommendations on key social questions and publishes reports, either at the request of the French government or on its own initiative. The Academy has established relations with foreign academies through the exchange of scholars, cooperation agreements and the organization of international conferences. Agence nationale de lutte contre l'illettrisme (ANLCI)
Founded in October 2000, the ANLCI is an interministerial, multi-partnership public interest group devoted to fighting functional illiteracy. Agence Nationale pour l'Amélioration des Conditions de Travail (ANACT)
ANACT is a public body under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Labour. It is part of a network of 26 regional associations for the improvement of working conditions (ARACT). Agence nationale pour la cohésion sociale et l'égalité des chances (Acsé)
The ACSE is a public institution of administrative nature under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Urban Development. It was created under the equal opportunities law of 31 March 2006. Its mission is to implement government policy on urban development, the fight against discrimination and on equal opportunities. The ACSE acts in the interest of individuals who encounter difficulties in terms of social and professional integration. The "website of the month " sheetThe CAF website provides links to five secondary websites which cater to different social groups: beneficiaries, students, community groups and partners have access to extensive information on the benefits paid out by the CAF, its activities, annual reports and key figures. Caisse nationale d'assurances vieillesse (CNAV)
The CNAV manages the pension schemes of workers who fall under the general social security scheme. It tracks wage employees' pension entitlements, makes pension payments and supports vulnerable pensioners. Comité Consultatif National d'Ethique (CCNE)
The Comité National Consultatif d'Ethique (CCNE) for life sciences and health was created under the law of 6 August 2004. The primary mission of this independent authority is to produce and publish announcements and reports. Conseil d'Etat
Created by a constitutional convention in 1790, the French Council of State fulfills two key historical functions. It advises the government when a bill or a decree is under consideration and renders judgment on disputes related to administrative acts. The Council manages the administrative appeal courts, administrative tribunals and the national tribunal for the right of asylum. Conseil de l'emploi, des revenus et de la cohésion sociale (CERC)
The CERC came into existence under the State Council decree of 7 July 2000. Its primary aim is to provide information on income levels, social inequalities and on the links between employment, income and social cohesion. It also evaluates social inequalities as they relate to redistribution mechanisms and informs the government and the general public of improvements to be made. Défenseur des droits
The appointment of a Défenseur des droits (Defender of rights) was instituted by the constitutional revision of 23 July 2008. This institution replaces the Défenseur des enfants (Children's ombudsman ), the Haute autorité de lutte contre les discriminations et pour l'égalité (High commission against discrimination and for equality) and the Commission nationale de déontologie de la sécurité (National commission on ethics in security). The first defender of rights is Dominique Baudis, appointed by the government in June 2011 for a non-renewable term of six years. He is assisted by 4 officers responsible for mediation with the public services, the fight against discrimination and the promotion of equality, ethics in security and the defence of children's rights. This portal is provided by the interministerial committee on urban planning and is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Labour. The committee creates, presents and evaluates policies designed for disadvantaged districts. It provides scientific and prospective analyses. It offers access to the EUKN (European Urban Knowledge Network) European library, and to the database on urban planning, which contains over 5,000 full-text documents (reports, circulars, case files, etc.). In collaboration with other bodies, it provides access to a geographical information system, which disseminates some of the statistical information provided by the national observatory for sensitive urban zones (Onzus): data relating to population, employment, companies, education and social benefits.
