African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC)
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant research on population and health issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.The Center was established in 1995 as a Population Policy Research Fellowship program of the Population Council, with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation. In 2001, it became an autonomous institution with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. APHRC's research focuses on improving understanding of population and health issues through development and implementation of innovative, policy-oriented research programs to address the region's key population and health challenges. APHRC's research focus is organized into four themes: Urbanization and wellbeing, Population and Reproductive Health, Health Challenges and Systems, Education. Asia Research Institute - ARI Research Cluster : Changing family in Asia
The Changing Family in Asia explores the dimensions of family change in the region, their causes and implications. The cluster has focused especially on changing marriage patterns in Asia, in recognition of the need to understand better the implications of the sharp delays in marriage through much of the region, changing forms of partnering and the increase in marriage across international and other boundaries. British Society for Population Studies (BSPS)
The British Society for Population Studies (BSPS) is a non-profitable society of persons with a scientific interest in the study of human populations. BSPS was founded in 1973, but originated in the 1960s.Its main objectives are to further the scientific study of biological, economic, historical, medical, social and other disciplines connected with human populations and to contribute to the public awareness of them. BSPS provides a forum for discussion of these issues and is a vehicle for the interchange of ideas. It provides facilities for study and research and for the exchange and dissemination of information. In order to fulfil its objectives, BSPS organises half-day and day meetings, occasional workshops and an annual conference. The Health and Demographic Surveillance Unit (HDSU) evaluates the impact of different interventions relating to population, health and socioeconomics. The Unit has two functional sub-units: (1) Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) and (2) Geographic Information System (GIS). Population Council
The Population Council, established in 1952, is an international, nonprofit organization that conducts research on three fronts: biomedical, social science, and public health. Its work ranges over the broad field of population: from research to improve services and products that respond to people's reproductive health needs to designing interventions to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS; from studies of the effects of population factors on a country's ability to provide a better life for its citizens to research that investigates the influence of education and livelihood opportunities on young girls and women.
