The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant research on population and health issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.The Center was established in 1995 as a Population Policy Research Fellowship program of the Population Council, with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation. In 2001, it became an autonomous institution with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. APHRC's research focuses on improving understanding of population and health issues through development and implementation of innovative, policy-oriented research programs to address the region's key population and health challenges. CEDUA was set up in 1964, under the name of "Centro de Estudios Económicos y Demográficos"(CEED). Its purpose was to promote research and teaching on population and urbanization in Mexico and Latin America. The centre's activities have progressively expanded. Two new bodies were set up in 1981: the "Centro de Estudios Económicos" (CEE) and the "Centro de Estudios Demográficos y de Desarrollo Urbano" (CEDDU). Founded in 1929, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) informs people around the world about population, health, and the environment. The Population Research Center, is an interdisciplinary research center. From the early 1940s through the early 1970s, Chicago had an outstanding population group in sociology.
