How many children in France live in a single-parent family?
Single-parent families are families in which a single adult lives with one or more of her/his children.
According to France’s Institut National des Statistiques et des Études Économiques (INSEE), 2.9 million of the 14.2 million minors living in France—that is, 21%—live in a single-parent family. The proportion rises with age: whereas 13% of children under age 3 live with a single parent, the figure is 23% for children age 6 to 17. 85% of these children reside primarily with their mother.
