How many mixed marriages are there in France?
In France, more than one marriage in seven is mixed, i.e. between a foreign man and a French woman, or a foreign woman and a French man.
In 2019, mixed marriages represent 15.3% of marriages celebrated in France, they represented 6% in 1950. Of the 212,415 marriages concluded in 2019, 32,430 of them united a person of foreign nationality and a person of French nationality.
In the majority of cases (37%) the foreign spouse is of North African nationality. Next come European nationalities (22%) other than French, followed by sub-Saharan African (14%) and Asian nationalities.
