How many mixed marriages are there in France?
In France, more than one marriage in seven is mixed, i.e. between a foreign man and a French woman, or a foreign woman and a French man. The first type of union is slightly more frequent than the second: out of 236,300 marriages celebrated in France in 2015, 33 800 counted a foreign groom or bride. In the majority of cases (37%) the foreign spouse is of North African nationality. Next come European nationalities (22%) other than French, followed by sub-Saharan African (14%) and Asian nationalities.
