Mortality, Health and Epidemiology This unit studies mortality and health in France and the world in the context of population ageing. In mortality, research focuses on life expectancy, and on measuring and analysing causes of death and survival at advanced ages. Themes in health research include perceived health, chronic diseases (cystic fibrosis in particular), risk factors, disability and dependence. Studies are conducted among the general population or on specific groups to examine trends, make international comparisons, identify inequalities (social, geographical, gender, etc.) and analyse the numerous contributing factors involved. The unit is also developing research in public health (effects of government policies, indicators, etc.) and the organization of healthcare (medical demography, end-of-life decisions, mental healthcare management).
