INED research teams work in ten research units and one institutionally mixed service unit. The units are run by one or two unit heads, and each constitutes a community of researchers working in the same general topic area, or sharing the same approach, or studying similar or related research questions or issues. Each unit has its own overall scientific research program, made up of particular avenues and areas that in turn group together unit member research projects.
