Du partenariat au mariage : le pari impossible d’un dispositif marital parallèle pour les couples de même sexe en Islande

Collection : Documents de travail

284, 2023, 36 pages

Using some forty interviews conducted in 2005 among LGB people, an analysis of the reception of the confirmed partnership law, a marital law proposed to Icelandic homosexual couples in 1996, reveals the impossibility of considering this law as an equivalent to marriage. Placed in its legal and social context, the practical contents and symbolic aspects of the law are criticized by the respondents, because it shows the inadequacy of this discriminatory marital arrangement, not only from a legal point of view but also in what it says about their place in society. The law was repealed by the opening of marriage in 2010.
