Is it true that people living in rural areas in France are younger than people living in urban ones?

The average age of people living in rural communities is in fact slightly lower than that of people in urban ones because the proportion of families with young children is higher. Moreover, older people tend to leave rural areas for urban ones, which have more facilities for dependent persons.
Another fact that contradicts presuppositions about rurality: the number of rural residents who moved in the past year is higher than those who moved in the opposite direction, particularly in the 18-25 age bracket, the life period of higher education and moves to cities. On average, the educational level of rural residents is lower and they are less engaged in the labor market.
Their fertility is also higher, by about 15%. Above and beyond the rural/urban split, demographic contrasts between regions are more pronounced in France than in most European countries, which seem less fragmented geographically.
