INED in brief

The Institute conducts research on developments over time and space in the phenomena that are the core subjects of population science, such as birth numbers and rates, mortality, immigration, families, and others. We conduct a wide variety of surveys, in conjunction with our “Surveys and Polls” and “Data Processing Methods” support services, among others.

The Institute participates actively in numerous partnership projects and research networks in France and across the world.

INED is one of the founding members of Campus Condorcet, which comprises eleven member institutions and organisations, as well as a library, the Humathèque, which brings together humanities and social sciences collections and research archives from more than 50 libraries and archive centres. All of INED's collections have been certified as collections of excellence by the CollEx-Persée research infrastructure.

From its founding in 1945, our organization has published books and scientific journals through its own publishing house, INED Publications/Éditions de l’INED. Our two leading journals are Population & Societies and Population, both of which are published in full in English. Researchers' publications are referenced in the institutional archive and made available to as many people as possible.
