One segment of this research accounts for current changes and analyzes all factors underlying them, from the effect of neighborhood in social integration processes to the roles played by public policy and the market. In a context marked by social policy regionalization, several studies analyze ties between life trajectories and mobility on the one hand, regions and public policy on the other.
Moreover, the emphasis of research on international migration is on how it impacts individual life trajectories in terms of fertility, family and family-founding trajectories, transition to adulthood, relational networks, back-and forth-movements between country of origin or departure and country of arrival, and other phenomena). Of major concern in this set of studies are the effects of migration on the migrant’s non-migrant family (in terms of both material and non-material exchanges).
Last, INED has already played and continues to play a major role in improving our statistical knowledge of France’s overseas departments and other administrative units by producing space-specific surveys on a range of different subjects. In those areas of France, the phenomena constituting major demographic issues such as population aging and migration are highly specific.
